What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
Sometimes, a patient who may have a dental emergency may ignore the signs of their dental emergency and subsequently delay treatment. Because the patient was unable to get their smile treated promptly, a tooth may have been lost when it could have of otherwise been saved. Please feel free to call our Mississauga dentists if you experience one of the following conditions.
Occasionally, you may experience some sensitivity, discomfort, or outright pain in one of your teeth. While this is not a good sign for your oral health, pain does not necessarily translate into a dental emergency. If the pain you feel is manageable, then you can instead schedule a visit to your dentist, who can give advice on making you more comfortable until your scheduled appointment. However, if the pain you feel is unbearable, call our Mississauga dentists immediately. Your tooth may have suffered a significant injury or be undergoing severe decay.
A knocked-out tooth is a significant dental problem. Having a tooth forced out of the jaw leaves gaps in the smile, can make chewing and speaking more difficult, and may eventually result in jaw bone resorption. Instead, by calling Erinwood Dental as soon as you are able to after having an avulsed tooth, you can increase the likelihood of saving your smile through an emergency appointment.
Depending on your dental emergency, the treatments Drs. A. and K. Patel offer will differ.
If you called your emergency appointment because you are experiencing severe dental pain, then our Mississauga dentists will promptly examine your tooth to determine the cause of the pain. A cracked or broken tooth will require a crown or extraction, respectively, to avoid infection and further oral health situations. A decaying tooth, however, might need a cleaning and a crown or extraction, depending upon the level of decay.
If your emergency appointment is instead due to an avulsed tooth, Erinwood Dental is capable of replanting and supporting your tooth. So long as the knocked out tooth is kept healthy and promptly replanted, it may continue to be a healthy, permanent tooth in your smile once more.
