We all expect our toothbrushes to take care of our teeth, but how do we take care of our toothbrushes? Your toothbrush must stay in good working order so they can continue keeping our smile happy and healthy. This is why our team at Erinwood Dental have put together a few tips that can help you take proper care of your toothbrush!
Store Your Toothbrush Properly
When storing your toothbrush, make sure it’s upright rather than on its side so it can properly dry! If you keep your toothbrushes in the same container as others, make sure they’re kept apart from one another to avoid germ cross-contamination.
Replace Your Toothbrush
Your toothbrush isn’t made to be kept around for long periods! According to the Canadian Dental Association, toothbrushes should be changed every 3 to 4 months. As the bristles on your brush become worn out and ragged, you may even notice wear-and-tear before the 3 month mark! Whenever this happens, the brush loses its ability to remove all food bits and bacteria end up accumulating in your teeth.
Keep Your Toothbrush Clean
When you’re done cleaning your teeth, make sure to properly rinse the bristles beneath running water! According to the Journal of The Canadian Dental Association, viruses and bacteria can contaminate your toothbrush and need to be removed.
